- Poland: crisis in egg production

‘This is a global scale crisis,’ admits Barbara Wozniak, board representative of Wozniak Poultry Farms, a company that is Poland's largest and Europe's second largest supplier of eggs. ‘Being one of the major producers of eggs in the EU, there should be no shortage of eggs in Poland. Prices, however, are rising unprecedentedly fast, with wholesale eggs already costing up to twice as much as a year earlier.’

- Poland: summary of ASF in 2022

The occurrence of ASF in pigs on a farm entails the immediate liquidation of the herd and disposal of the killed animals. All items and substances that may have been contaminated with the virus are also destroyed. A farm where ASF has been found is subject to cleaning and disinfection. Therefore, Polish pig farmers were a little pleased with the published summary, but realize that this is not the end of the fight against this major threat to their production.

- Romania: average price for 1 ha farmland increased to 7,600 euros

The average price of a hectare of agricultural land has reached 7,601 euros, according to the latest data published at European level and quoted by 'Agrointeligenta'. The average price of a hectare of arable land in the European Union in 2021 ranged from €3,661 in Croatia to €47,290 in Luxembourg, according to the data published by Eurostat.

Egypt has seen a tremendous growth in agricultural activity since the 1990s. In the last 60 years, wheat harvests per hectare have increased more than fivefold. In addition, the country has become a major exporter of fruits and vegetables. Agriculture in Egypt is big business, says Omar Abdellatif.  Not only in terms of money but especially in terms of adding value to the lives of small farmers and poor local people. Abdellatif is working as an agricultural advisor at the Netherlands Embassy in Cairo.
