KENYA: Mango Fruit Fly Management Training

Kenya and the Netherlands have a long history of working together. The Netherlands is the number 3 export destination of Kenya’s product which is largely horticulture and floriculture. During our previous visit to Embu County, we interacted with the Governor Hon. Cecile Mbarire and her team. One of the areas that they requested capacity building is in mango fruit fly. The export of mangoes to the EU has recently resumed offering Kenyan farmers an opportunity to supply the international market. This not only promotes exports but also provides income for their families. For this training, we collaborates with our partners namely KEPHIS and the private sector to facilitate this training. Together with the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture we have the Agriculture Working Group where we cooperate on matters of animal and plant health. This is a good example of our cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries. This training enabled the farmers to share experiences and learning on the mango fruit fly while consulting with the experts.
