Met Canada en de Verenigde Staten (VS) als werkgebied heeft LNV-attaché Alya de Bie genoeg te doen. Of het nu gaat om de eiwittransitie of de Nederlands-Canadese samenwerking rond de verduurzaming en verhoogde efficiëntie in de tuinbouw de praktische toepassing van kennis en technologie heeft haar aandacht. Gestationeerd op de Nederlandse ambassade in Washington werkt het LAN team waarvan ze deel uitmaakt hard aan duurzame voedselsystemen en het stimuleren van de natuur en biodiversiteit. ‘Bij al onze activiteiten zijn dat de belangrijkste randvoorwaarden. We werken actief aan verdere bewustwording op deze punten in de VS en Canada.’

‘Produceren wat we consumeren.’ Deze ambitie zal als leidraad worden genomen voor het overheidsbeleid rond veehouderij. Dit raakt aan het vraagstuk van voedselsoevereiniteit: Frankrijk moet zijn bevolking kunnen voorzien van voedsel afkomstig van dieren van eigen bodem. De Franse regering heeft een pakket maatregelen bekendgemaakt, maar of dit de Franse veehouderijsector tevreden zal stellen is nog de vraag.

The Republic of Moldova wishes to establish a Horticulture Office, a public institution that shall professionalize and speed up the development of the horticulture sector. A delegation with State Secretary in the Moldovan Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Mr. Vasile Sarban, 4 leaders of the main associations in horticulture and USAID representatives, visited the Netherlands for learning and inspiration. Jos Leeters from HollandDoor organized and guided the visit.

Poland is ranked fifth among the European Union countries in terms of size of cattle population. The annual domestic production of live cattle is within the range of 550-570 thousand tonnes, which gives Poland the position of the sixth producer among the EU countries, with the 8% share in the production.

The Ministry of Finance in Poland announced its intention not to extend the 0 VAT rate on food. The decision was made on the basis of the latest data on falling inflation and the slowdown in the growth rate of food prices.

De Food & Drink Federation heeft door middel van een analyse van de handelscijfers van HMRC (His Majesty’s Customs & Excise) een UK-EU Food and Drink Trade Snapshot gemaakt. Daarin zijn de export- en importcijfers uitgelicht met een gedetailleerde blik op de veranderingen die hebben plaats gevonden in de handel in 2023 ten opzichte van 2022.

During a ceremonial meeting at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance on 28 February 2024, the Grant Arrangement for Cool Port Addis was signed. This happened in the presence of multiple stakeholders from both Ethiopia and the Netherlands. “The development of Cool Port Addis at Modjo Dry Port is a next step in the ambitious logistic investment agenda of Ethiopia to enhance its international trade,” declared the Minister of Transport and Logistics Dr. Alemu Sime Feyisa.

Seagriculture USA 2024 in Ketchikan, Alaska

Van 9 t/m 16 maart bracht een delegatie van 25 personen uit North-Carolina een werkbezoek aan Nederland. De groep onder leiding van NC Secretary of State Elaine Marshall en samengesteld uit lokale politici en bestuurders uit de private sector en het onderwijs was met name geïnteresseerd in de Nederlandse kennis en kunde op het gebied van (topsector) tuinbouw en watermanagement.

After launching the PIB Horti in China in 2021, the organisation has been working hard to help create a more sustainable and profitable hortiultural sector in China. On March 13 2024, a new exciting project was launched. The PIB Horti and the Dutch Greenhouse Delta joined forces and created a K2K (knowledge to knowledge) training program, catering to the increasing demand from the sector for specialized training for new farmers.
