Highlights Agroberichten Buitenland week 7, 2024

Agrarische productieketens staan voor de belangrijke uitdaging om voedselzekerheid en financiële stabiliteit van boeren te garanderen, en tegelijkertijd de potentiële negatieve effecten van hun activiteiten – waaronder de uitstoot van broeikasgassen en verlies aan biodiversiteit – te minimaliseren. Via het doen van due diligence, als onderdeel van Internationaal Maatschappelijk Verantwoord Ondernemen (IMVO), kunnen de bedrijven de risico’s op het gebied van milieu, klimaat en biodiversiteit identificeren en aanpakken.

Due diligence in agrarische productieketens

Het is ieder jaar een komen en gaan van politici en boerenleiders op de grootste agrarische beurs van Frankrijk, de Salon International de l’Agriculture (SIA), die van 24 februari tot 3 maart gehouden wordt in Parijs. Dat is niet gek, want er komen zo’n 600.000 bezoekers op af, van jong tot oud en vanuit alle gewesten van Frankrijk.

Tijdens de recente boerenprotesten is wederom gebleken dat Frankrijk enorm worstelt met internationale handel. Onder druk van de boeren werd daarom een aantal maatregelen doorgevoerd: wettelijke erkenning van het belang van voedselsoevereiniteit, de concrete toepassing van ‘spiegelclausules’ en gelijkschakeling met het EU-beleid voor gewasbeschermingsmiddelen.

Serbia: Biogas mission successful

Farmers' profit margins are on the rise, threatening further inflation. In its latest study, the Spanish Observatory of Business Margins reports that "margins on sales in the agri-food chain continued to recover in the third quarter of 2023, driven by the primary sector and the food industry". At the same time, although food inflation fell last December, it could rise again if the drought continues.
