A key focus is product safety. Finished fertilizers must be free from pathogenic microorganisms such as salmonella and helminth eggs, while strict limits will apply to heavy metals including lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic. Radiation levels must also remain within established hygienic limits.
The standard also regulates production technologies, equipment, packaging, labelling, transportation and storage. Authorities say the unified rules will help domestic producers improve quality, use production capacities more efficiently and support the growth of organic farming in Kazakhstan.
The move comes as Kazakhstan's fertilizer industry continues to expand. Nitrogen fertilizer production reached 384,800 tonnes in 2025, up 11.4% from the previous year, although it remains below the 445,000 tonnes recorded in 2021.
One more step to the safer future
Kazakhstan’s new ST RK standard marks an important step toward safer and higher-quality organic fertilizer production. By introducing unified processing, safety and environmental requirements, the country aims to strengthen domestic producers and support the development of organic farming. The standard could also improve the competitiveness of Kazakhstan’s fertilizer industry in international markets.
