According to the latest statistical compendium of Comecarne - Mexico’s meat industry association - Mexico’s chicken meat production increased from 3.07 million to 3.6 million tons, or 18,9%, between 2016 and 2021. Between 2020 and 2021 Mexico’s chicken meat production grew by 2.3%. These numbers make Mexico’s the world’s sixth largest poultry meat producer, after the US, China, Brazil, the EU and Russia. According to the Comecarne Compendium, the state of Veracruz is Mexico’s largest chicken meat producer, with a total of 460,305 tons (or 12,6% of the national total) produced in 2021. The other states that make up the top five of chicken meat producing states are Jalisco, Aguascalientes, Querétaro and Durango.

Consumption

At a rate of 3,6%, Mexican chicken meat consumption grew faster than production in 2021, making Mexico the world’s fifth largest chicken meat consumer, after Russia, Japan, Thailand, Argentina and the United Kingdom.
