Türkiye: In Konya Plain, 190 thousand 850 decares of agricultural land will be irrigated
General Director of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) Mehmet Akif Balta stated that 190 thousand 850 decares of land will be irrigated in Konya Plain with the “KOS 1-2-3 Irrigation Supply Construction” project.
General Directorate of DSİ produces new projects in order to expand modern irrigation in agriculture and to provide the highest benefit in agricultural lands through consolidation works.
In this context, it is aimed to irrigate agricultural areas in Konya Plain.
DSİ General Director Mehmet Akif Balta said in a written statement that modern irrigation diversifies the production pattern and increases the yield in agriculture, which is reflected in farmer incomes.
Balta emphasised that while this situation serves the purpose of reducing poverty, which is one of the goals of rural development, it also prevents migration as it raises the living conditions:
“When KOS 1-2-3 Irrigations are completed, it is aimed to contribute 610 million liras annually to the national economy with unit prices of 2023. With the completion of the project, product diversity will increase in the region and will contribute to the socio-economic development of the local people whose income sources are based on agriculture.”
