Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Establishes Council for Circular Economy

The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has established the Green Alternative for Bulgaria Circular Economy Council, the employers' organization said on Wednesday.

The founders of the council are companies, organizations and scientific institutes working in the field of circular economy, as well as individuals with extensive experience and expertise. BCCI President Tsvetan Simeonov welcomed the founders of the Council and pointed out that the idea is timely, as one of the priority areas of business in line with the Green Deal is to transform the industry on the basis of innovative green technologies and achieve sustainable development.

The Council will initially focus on the most polluting industries, namely the agriculture, textiles and plastics.

The Council's programme includes activities related to: informing, training, supporting and advising small and medium-sized enterprises on the application of business models and practices of the circular economy, organizing workshops for innovative ideas, led by leading experts, providing information on innovative technologies that reduce industrial waste and protect the environment, success stories of Bulgarian and foreign companies in the application of green technologies.

Desislava Dimitrova, a certified expert in Circular Economics from Michigan University, USA and Wageningen University, Netherlands, with over 15 years of international experience in the field of circular economy and in the food industry both in Bulgaria and abroad, was elected Chair of the Green Alternative for Bulgaria Circular Economy Council Bureau.
