Vietnam classified as “low-risk”country under EUDR

As announced by the European Commission on 22 May, Vietnam is officially classified as a “low-risk” country under the European Union’s Deforestration Regulations (EUDR). This means that only 1% of Vietnamese businesses exporting regulated commodities to Europe will be subject to strict inspections – a significant advantage in the global trade competitiveness and a clear recognition of Vietnam’s efforts in responsible sourcing and environmental governance.

Shrimp exporters shift focus to various markets

Vietnamese shrimp exports surged in early 2025, reaching over USD 1.3 billion in the first four months—a 34% increase from 2024. Growth was driven by a sharp rise in U.S. exports, as companies rushed shipments before the U.S. imposes new reciprocal tariffs under the Trump administration.

Shrimp exports to the EU increased by 28% year-over-year to USD 152 million in the first four months of the year. Exporters are increasingly looking to diversify their markets in response to the uncertainties in the U.S. market, and the EU remains a critical market. Exporters are cutting costs, and leveraging trade deals like EVFTA, CPTPP, and RCEP to reduce reliance on the U.S. and tap into new opportunities.

The 10-day mission includes visits to farms, processing plants, and packaging facilities across several provinces.
