Aeres, in partnership with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Tanzania, is driving the development of a specialized poultry curriculum for Tanzanian TVET institutions. This initiative enhances skills, infrastructure, and industry engagement to elevate poultry production and education.
A Strategic Alliance for Poultry Development
To address gaps in Tanzania’s poultry knowledge and workforce readiness, Aeres Training Centre initiated a fact finding mission to evaluate a TVET curriculum partnering with their Tanzanian counterpart, Tanzania Livestock Training Agency (LITA). The project is supported by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and coordinated by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Dar es Salaam. This collaboration aims to build a specialized, practical poultry curriculum aligned with labor market needs.
The fact-finding mission collected information from public and private TVET and higher learning knowledge institutes, policy makers and poultry farmers. The assessment covered Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Iringa regions. In addition, over a seminar, a wide range of poultry sector stakeholders such as bankers, accreditation bodies, academics, veterinaries, vaccine producers, commercial keepers etc, were invited to share the industry needs and gaps.
One of the key output for this meeting was acknowledgement from the TVET organization that there is no specialized poultry curriculum in the country. Based on the industry growth, it was highly recommend the project looks into working with LITA and the industry to come up with a poultry specialized curriculum and short courses for farmers as catalyst in driving the poultry transformation. The Morogoro TVET institute was selected to pilot the new curriculum due to its capacity, proximity to commercial farms, and strong teaching base. However, it was recommended the center offers practical learning through student-built poultry houses, hands-on flock management, and digital record-keeping systems.

Building Teacher Capacity through Dutch Expertise
Teacher training is a cornerstone of the initiative. Through partnerships facilitated by the Dutch Embassy, Tanzanian instructors participated in intensive hands-on training at companies like Silverlands. These sessions emphasized real-world poultry practices, leadership, and responsibility—skills critical for both educators and their future students.
Introducing Inclusive Short Courses
In response to stakeholder demand, Aeres and the Livestock Training Agency’s (LITA) are introducing short-term poultry courses tailored for youth, women, farm workers, and extension officers. These flexible, high-impact trainings aim to expand access to knowledge and entrepreneurship opportunities across the poultry value chain.
Dutch Contributions: Knowledge, Tools, and Technology
Dutch educational institutions are playing a vital role in shaping the new curriculum by sharing best practices, e-learning tools, and training materials. In parallel, Dutch private companies are contributing technical support, equipment, and startup inputs such as feed and chicks, reinforcing the practical learning environment. This initiative is set to empower the future of Tanzania poultry sector.
