Landbouwraad Arie Veldhuizen is sinds een maand of drie gestationeerd in Kazachstan. Op de Nederlandse ambassade in de hoofdstad Astana is hij zijn post aan het opbouwen. Tot zijn werkgebied behoren de landen Kazachstan, Oezbekistan en Kirgizië. Er is hier grote behoefte aan kennis en technologie, vertelt hij. ‘Dat hoeft niet altijd de meest moderne technologie te zijn. Zoek naar oplossingen die passen bij de lokale omstandigheden, de plaatselijke markt.’

Sinds augustus is Rick Nobel als landbouwraad gestationeerd op de Nederlandse ambassade in Seoel, Zuid-Korea. Daarvoor was hij landbouwattaché in New Delhi, in India. Hij ziet veel kansen voor het Nederlandse bedrijfsleven in Zuid-Korea. ‘We kunnen een rol spelen in de productievergroting, maar met oplossingen als melkrobots ook een bijdrage leveren aan het tekort aan arbeidskrachten en de vergrijzing in het land.’

Frankrijk worstelt al jaren met de spanning tussen een toenemende wolvenpopulatie en de bescherming van schapen en andere gehouden dieren. De Franse overheid ziet zich genoodzaakt om met een nieuw ‘wolvenplan’ te komen, om tegemoet te komen aan de gewijzigde situatie (met een groter aantal wolven) en de zorgen van boeren en herders. 1 januari 2024 moet dit van kracht worden, en in de tussentijd loopt een publieke consultatie.

The agricultural team at the Netherlands embassy in Pretoria had the opportunity to host 23 Dutch companies in South Africa alongside the state visit of their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, from the 16^th to 20^th of October. Gelare Nader werkte vier jaar als landbouwraad op de Nederlandse ambassade in Seoel, Zuid-Korea: van augustus 2019 tot en met juli 2023. Door de coronapandemie was haar werk soms lastig. Maar dat weerhield haar er niet van om aan de slag te gaan. ‘Je moet niet wachten tot het beter wordt, maar zelf kansen maken. Zo hebben we grote stappen kunnen zetten.’
