Frankrijk: de overheid zet zich in voor het welzijn van huisdieren

Het geschatte aantal katten en honden in Frankrijk is 15,1 miljoen katten en 7,5 miljoen honden (laatste cijfers uit 2020). Ondanks de verplichte registratie worden niet alle huisdieren aangemeld. Een onderzoek toont aan dat het aantal dieren dat wordt opgevangen in asielen en opvangcentra, of ze nu achtergelaten zijn of niet, rond de 200.000 dieren per jaar ligt.

- Frankrijk: ministerie van Landbouw en Voedselsoevereiniteit lanceert actieplan voor slachterijen

De Franse slachthuissector kampt met grote economische problemen. Om deze sector daarin te ondersteunen kondigde het Franse ministerie van Landbouw -en Voedselsoevereiniteit een actieplan aan om het netwerk van slachthuizen te consolideren ten bate van de veehouderijsector en het dierenwelzijn.

- Moldova: launch Agro-food Partnership Platform EU member states

On 6. October the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry of the Republic of Moldova organized an event on the launch of the Agro-food Partnership Platform, an initiative aimed on the collaboration and support of EU member states, stimulating the cooperation and speeding up the reforms in Moldova’s agro-food sector.

- Romania: calendar of launching calls for EU funded projects (CAP-NSP)

The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture has just announced the schedule of calls for projects to be launched by the Agency for Rural Investment Financing - AFIR, this autumn. The applications for funding are related to the interventions under Pillar II of the CAP National Strategic Plan. No less than 10 interventions are expected to be launched this autumn, which means that farmers/entrepreneurs need to hurry up. Applications should be submitted online to AFIR, same as before, once the calls are open.

The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is updating the piped systems in agricultural enterprises with prepaid electronic meters in order to prevent the water shortage that is increasingly being felt with global warming.

- Ethiopia: revitalizing landscapes and ecosystems in Central Rift Valley

The Ziway-Shalla Basin in Balance program addresses the root causes of the decline in water quantity and quality in the basin. The program uses an integrated landscape approach to support farmer communities in improving their productivity, using water more efficiently and restoring soil fertility in the landscape. The program is a public-private partnership financed by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) that runs from 2019 to 2024.

- Indonesia: agroforestry contributes to making lives better

Agroforestry has made a big contribution to the lives of many Indonesian farmers, especially small-scale ones. With help of programs such as Working Landscape and TRACTIONS, which is financed by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and TRACTIONS, which is funded by RVO, they have succeeded not only in increasing their income, enhancing farmer organizational skills, but also in making a significant contribution to carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation.

- Malaysia: big turnout for seminar on sustainable horticulture in the Cameron Highlands

To demonstrate the opportunities for sustainable food production, the Netherlands Embassy and local grower Greenheart Farms teamed up to organize farm tours and a seminar on “Sustainable Horticulture in the Cameron Highlands” for regional farmers and a Government delegation from Indonesia in September, with a great turnout as a result.
