The Interdepartmental Commission on Business Regulation has approved amendments to the Law of Kazakhstan on Plant Protection. Now, domestic manufacturers will be able to produce pesticides for export without having to reregister in Kazakhstan if the drug is already registered in the importing country. This was reported in the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs.

"The adoption of these amendments and additions will allow domestic enterprises to produce pesticides in Kazakhstan without duplicating the procedure for registering goods for export to the countries where these pesticides are registered. This decision is a long-awaited step for the chemical industry and the agricultural sector," commented a representative of one of the major producers of pesticides, Astana-Nas.

Atameken noted that so far, the law has actually frozen the capacities of domestic plants. Production was allowed only after registration in Kazakhstan, and this procedure took more than two years. As a result, the enterprises were loaded by only 10%, although they could produce up to 60 million litres of products per year.

Thanks to this decision, manufacturers will be able to use idle capacities, and Kazakhstan will have a chance to become a regional hub for the supply of pesticides to the markets of Central Asia and Europe. Tax revenues from this industry may increase by 3 times.

According to Gulmira Kazhybekova, an expert of the Department of Manufacturing Industry at the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, the capacities of Kazakhstani enterprises make it possible to completely cover not only domestic needs, but also to generate an export stream.
