Ukraine is the 4th largest agro exporter to EU

Ukraine has lost some of its agricultural exports to the EU in 2021. It accounts for 4.9% of total exports of agricultural products to the EU, but remains on the fourth place among the largest exporters to the European Union.

This comes out of in the report on EU trade in agricultural products covering the period from January to April 2021. The top suppliers of agro-industrial products to the EU during the first four months of 2021 include Brazil, the United States, Great Britain, Ukraine and China. These countries account for 34% of the total volume of imports.

Ukraine, along with the United Kingdom, was among the countries whose exports of agricultural production to the EU decreased the most in the first four months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020. For Ukraine this year, total export amounted to 1874 million euros in absolute terms (-452 million euros, or -19.4%). The decrease in exports was caused by reduction in supplies of corn and sunflower seeds to the EU.

In the list of the most important destinations for the European exports, Ukraine is on the 13th position, accounting for 1.5% of European exports of agricultural products. In absolute terms, during the first four months, the supply of such goods from the EU to Ukraine increased by 7.3%, to an absolute figure of 1,024 million euros (+69 million euros).

The total volume of trade in agricultural products in the EU, including export and import operations, in the period from January to April this year amounted to 103.4 billion euros, which is 1.1% less than during the same period in 2020. At the same time, the EU increased exports of such products by 1.7% to 63 billion euros, while imports reduced by 5.1% to 40.3 billion euros.

In January-March 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, Ukrainian imports of goods worldwide increased by 11.0% to $ 15.02 billion, and exports - by 12.0%, to $ 13.71 billion .
