Ukraine trade results of the year: used Euro quotas for 11 products

Exports of Ukrainian agri-food products to the European Union in 2020 fell by 10.8% compared to last year.

This is stated in the report of the association "Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business".

It is noted that last year Ukraine closed 11 quotas for duty-free exports to the EU.

"Ukraine has fully used the quotas for duty-free exports of agri-food products to the EU by following product groups: honey, sugar, cereals and flour, processed starch, processed tomatoes, grapes and apple juices, eggs, corn, poultry, processed cereals and starch," - it is told in the message.

Compared to the same period last year, the situation has changed with the use of quotas for supplies to the EU of eggs, wheat and butter, experts say.

“Thus, in 2020, quotas for the supply of eggs were fully used, although a year earlier the percentage of their use was only 80%. But the situation with wheat is the opposite: the quota in 2020 was filled only by 78%, although a year ago it was fully used, "- say experts.

A more critical situation is with butter: in 2020, only 6% of the allocated quota was used, while last year it was used in full, UCAB adds.

"In 2020, exports of Ukrainian butter fell by 38% compared to last year, and in the EU became generally meager (export revenue in 2020 amounted to $ 0.4 million compared to $ 7.2 million in 2019). The main reason: Ukrainian butter cannot compete in price with European butter even in the presence of quotas due to the increase in the cost of its production. Moreover, the import of European butter to Ukraine in 2020 exceeded the export by 1000 times, ”said UCAB analyst Svetlana Litvin.
