Agribusiness Marketscan Uganda 2022

The Dutch private sector requires recent and up-to-date market information to effectively do business in Uganda and the East African Community (EAC). Uganda’s agricultural statistical systems are not yet optimally developed, which creates information gaps that derail strategic decision-making by all sector stakeholders. To bridge this gap, the Netherlands Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality commissioned an Agribusiness Market Scan covering the last 5 years (2016-2021) part of which was besieged by the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings of the study provide insights into the evolution and current state of agricultural policy, trade regulations and standards, agro- ommodity supply and demand trends, and an analysis of opportunities and constraints for the different agricultural value chains.

Before the outbreak of the COVID-19, Uganda had registered considerable economic momentum with GDP growth rates of 6.3 and 6.4 percent in Fiscal Years (FY) 2017/18 and 2018/19 respectively. In the post COVID-19 recovery context, both Ugandan, Dutch and other businesses are looking for opportunities to revamp their performance, in local, regional and international markets.
