Tanzania Poultry Mission to the Netherlands

A group led by Prof. Daniel Elias Mushi, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Tanzania Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, along with private sector representatives and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Dar es Salaam, visited the Netherlands in January 2024. The purpose was to gather insights on poultry health, genetics, feed, and value addition.

Financed by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), This mission was organized by the Mission department of RVO in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Tanzania. Prior to departure, the deputy head of mission of the Netherlands Embassy, Mr. Job Runhaar gave cultural orientation to the delegation on as the firsthand information about the Netherlands.

About the Mission

The delegation embarked on a study tour in a 3-day program filled with meetings, visits, speed dating and networking sessions. The group was welcomed by Mr. Ralf van de Beek, Director for International Agribusiness and Food Security of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, and his team. To kick off the visit, the two countries affirmed mutual commitment to strengthen the bilateral collaborations through renewal of an Memorandum of Understand (MoU) covering poultry and aquaculture sectors. For the poultry sector, a verbal agreement was made to focus on the genetics, health, feed and value addition.

2. Aeres Training Center

The training center specializes in providing vocational training at various levels. Areas covered includes poultry, cattle, piggery, animal feed, and insect rearing. Tanzania companies and institutes in the poultry sector can request for a tailor made training. The request should indicate the type of training, place and number of people expected to be trained. The training can be organized in consortium of the companies seeking similar solutions in poultry sector.

3. Royal GD

The primary focus of Royal GD is on animal health and production bringing theory and practice together. With a team of approximately  90  researchers  and specialized veterinarians, Royal GD conducts minimum of 5 million laboratory analyses annually. The institutes also conducts trainings for veterinary  officers and offer tailor made trainings on animal health.
