Romania Indagra fair: the right place to be. And we were there!

The Indagra international agri-food fair has just closed its doors in Romania’s capital city, Bucharest. Indagra is undoubtedly the largest agri-food fair in Romania and probably in the south-eastern Europe region.

Attractive sector

The availability of EU funds for investments in the rural area as well as the under-utilised agricultural potential of the country, make the sector still an attractive one. Especially nowadays, when European food security is back on the agenda. Unlike some other parts of Europe, here there is room for growth – if we only look at the surprising agri-food trade balance deficit recurring every year, despite the more than 13 million hectares of good agricultural land, and the thriving modern retail sector. However, it should not be just any kind of growth, but obviously sustainable growth.

The fair, like many others around the world, has been affected by the pandemic and subsequent crises. It has recovered, even if not fully. However, it is still the best place for farmers, entrepreneurs, policy makers, academia, to meet once a year and talk the international language of agriculture. And to find out about the latest developments, innovations and solutions for a modern and sustainable agriculture.

Networking event

The Netherlands could not be absent from such an event. We had the pleasure to meet and greet: Fairplant, Holland Farming Agro, Host, KG Systems, Memon, NPI, Ridder, Schrijnwerkers Plants, Tree Nursery Fleuren, Agriprogress, Foodmate, Mavitec, Koppert, Barenbrug as well as our partners from the AgriEdu Center of Excellence. Several Dutch seed companies were also represented on the fair. A good reason for the NL Embassy in Bucharest and its LNV-office to organise a networking event for agribusinesses already present in Romania and the newcomers on the fair, completed by representatives of farmers’ organisations, education & research and authorities. Business leads were identified, but also new cooperation ideas, at all levels. We are looking forward to follow-up on them!
