Launch Agro-food Partnership Platform Moldova and EU member states

On 6 October The Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry of the Republic of Moldova organized an event on the launch of the Agro-food Partnership Platform – an initiative aimed on the collaboration and support of EU member states, stimulating the cooperation and speeding up the reforms in Moldova’s agro-food sector.

Moldova has some major challenges to address, such as climate change, the security crisis in the region on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict background, the reconstitution of value chains that affected both, the supply of raw materials into the country, as well as the production and export possibilities and inflation of production costs in agriculture.

“The farmers from Moldova go through difficult times..”. “ The presence of European ministers at the today’s conference is a sign that we are not alone and that we have colleagues from whom we can take over ideas, pieces of advice and good practices, in order to cope with this complicated situation,’’ Deputy PM, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vladimir Bolea said in his introduction speech.

The representatives of the members of the Agro-food Partnership Platform, being the ministers of Agriculture of Moldova, Germany, Romania, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland, reiterated their commitment to further back Moldova in the reform process, stressing the appreciation for the self-denial and work carried out. They expressed confidence in a European future for Moldova. This was laid down through the signing of a Joint Declaration. Other member states, a.o. the Netherlands, Austria, Italy and France, stated the importance of and their willingness to support Moldova in the implementation of the EU acquis and in the promotion of the agro-food sector’s sustainable development.

The Agro-food Partnership Platform will serve as a communication platform between the  ministries of the connected countries. The purpose of the Platform is to ensure a working framework designed to facilitate communication between the institutions we represent and to provide the necessary support in the agri-food field in the EU accession process. It will support the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova through jointly identifying bilateral or multilateral cooperation instruments with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova. It will also create a Mentoring Group with the participation of the mentioned Ministries of Agriculture from the EU member states and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry from the Republic of Moldova in order to achieve the proposed objectives.
