The event, as every year, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including EU policy makers, regional government representatives, local administrations, startups, NGOs, researchers.

Circular Week included a day dedicated to Bioeconomy and concerned with innovative ideas and initiatives that go beyond the classic schemes. The main topic was the bioeconomy and circular transformation in the food sector. Participants sought and discussed biobased solutions in the spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration to create a world where nature is respected and rejuvenated, and economic prosperity is achieved without compromising the well-being of our planet.

Representatives of visions straight from the Netherlands and from both the public and business sectors also made their significant contributions. First, in the opening session titled Systemic ecosystem for circular bioeconomy development national bioeconomy strategies, Pauline Buffing, Policy Officer, Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality spoke about strategy for bioeconomy including circular agriculture in the Netherlands.

In the closing session of the event - Industrial symbiosis – biowaste and biomass as a source of energy, textiles, construction material, packaging, Maurice Brenninkmeijer from Protix talked about how to put circularity into practice. Protix strives to operate under the principle of a good mix of people, technology and commercial expertise. Protix stresses, based on scientific research, that their products have a much lower environmental impact compared to popular alternatives, and the business idea they are pursuing can be used to reduce the environmental footprint while meeting the demand for more sustainable nutrition.
