Poland regained status of HPAI free country

The Chief Veterinary Officer informs that on August 13, 2020, Poland regained the status of a country free from highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). According to Art. 3 of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code, if HPAI infection in poultry has occurred in an avian influenza free country, zone or compartment, recovery may be free three months after applying the stamping-out policy (including killing birds and carrying out cleaning and disinfection).

Due to the occurrence of 35 HPAI outbreaks in poultry in the 2019/2020 season, the Veterinary Inspection has implemented all control procedures provided for in the event of this disease. On May 13, 2020, the Chief Veterinary Officer submitted a report to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) on the completion of activities related to the eradication of the disease, thanks to which on August 13, 2020 Poland regained the status of a HPAI-free country in accordance with OIE recommendations.

The Chief Veterinary Officer asked all countries that introduced restrictions related to the occurrence of avian influenza in Poland to repeal the imposed restrictions.
