Subsidy for removal of agricultural films

Agriculture and climate ministries together with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management are launching the program for the removal of agricultural films and other waste from agricultural activities for the second time. The target is PLN 25 million, which will allow for the development of approx. 50 thousand tons of foil waste and the call for applications starts on June 28. Beneficiaries are municipalities and inter-municipal associations.

The program "Removal of agricultural films and other agricultural waste" is aimed to develop systems for the management of plastic waste from agriculture. It provides for a one-off financing for the removal of waste that has been accumulated on farms due to organizational and economic problems related to its management.

Projects eligible for investment include those in the field of transport and recovery or disposal of waste, including agricultural films, nets and twine for wrapping bales, fertilizer packaging and big bags. The subsidy intensity is a subsidy up to 100% of eligible costs, but not more than PLN 500 per 1 Mg of waste removed. Agreements will be signed by the end of March 2022, while funds will be spent until November 2022. Support from the program is also qualified as de minimis aid in agriculture.

Biedronka buys cabbage affected by hailstorm

When local vegetable crops suffered as a result of recent hailstorm, Biedronka-the biggest Polish retail chain- decided to buy 156 tons of cabbage from farmers in the affected region and offered it to customers.

Cabbage grown in this region, despite the hailstorm, is wholesome – explains Biedronka. As a result of the hail, its outer leaves were slightly damaged. However, this does not worsen its taste or nutritional value in any way, because the outer leaves are usually removed after the purchase of cabbage - adds the chain.

Biedronka announces that it will buy 120 thousand pieces cabbage from local farmers from the Kraków surroundings where postt-hail losses are greatest.

Agricultural drought in Poland

So far, an agricultural drought has been found in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. It was recorded in 2 communes and it concerns only spring cereals. However, looking at the weather forecasts, there are many indications that the range of agricultural drought will gradually increase.

In the second reporting period issued in Poland (April 1 to May 31, 2021) the average value of the Climatic Water Balance (CWB) on the basis of which the assessment of the risk of drought is made, was negative, it was -22 mm. In the current sixty-day period, the value of CWB increased by 3 mm compared to the previous period (March 21-May 20).

The greatest water deficit is recorded in the areas in the north-eastern part of the Szczecinskie Coast and in the central part of the West Pomeranian Lake District, in these areas it ranges from -90 to -129 mm. The deficit is slightly lower in the southern part of the Poludniowopodlaska Lowland and in the West-Volyn Polesie, from -90 to -119 mm. In the rest of the country, water shortages were lower from -50 mm to -90 mm, and in some places in the southern regions of Poland, even an excess of water was still recorded.

As a result of the humidity conditions present in the current reporting period, we find agricultural droughts in Poland. Agricultural drought occurs in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Applies to the crops of spring cereals. Drought in these crops was recorded in 2 communes of the Świdwin poviat, i.e. in 0.08% of Polish communes.
