Financial Institutions share their agricultural projects in Uzbekistan

In March 2019, over 70 representatives of 45 Netherlands related companies took part in the Agricultural Trade Mission to Uzbekistan organized by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture and Embassy and led by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mrs. Renée Jones-Bos. During a breakfast session, several International Financial Institutes shared their agricultural operations and projects in Uzbekistan.

The diverse program contained many interactive events, including a Breakfast Session with representatives of international financial institutions, a meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and an Uzbek–Dutch Agro Business Forum followed by individual B2B meetings. The Dutch delegation joined the Ambassador who took part in the official opening of the AgroWorld Uzbekistan 2019 and visited the stands of Uzbek and Dutch exhibitors. At least 14 Dutch companies had stands at AgroWorld Uzbekistan this year proving that the Netherlands is a leading global player when it comes to high value propagation and breeding material, modern technology, innovative products and specific expertise.

International Financial Institutes

One of the events considered by the participants as most important and useful, was the Breakfast Session with the representatives of international financial institutions and the discussion on current economic developments and running and future projects in Uzbekistan in the field of agriculture.

The Session was joined by representatives of the EU Delegation, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, USAID/DAI, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and International Finance Cooperation who presented their projects and operations with regard to the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan.

World Bank and EU-delegation

In particular, World Bank and EU Delegation focused on general politics, economic and agricultural developments in Uzbekistan, Uzbek government and foreign (WB and EU) support programmes for agriculture and opportunities for the agribusiness with attention on opportunities in livestock including dairy and poultry.

EBRD, ADB and IFC

The representative of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) spoke on the role and support programs of the EBRD and in particular on its concrete support on SME's and investments in Uzbekistan. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and International Finance Cooperation (IFC) presented their support programs in the field of agriculture in Uzbekistan as well.

USAID - DAI

USAID DAI focused during the session on their activities on production and processing of horticultural products in Uzbekistan and opportunities for foreign companies. DAI representatives also spoke on the marketing of horticultural products and opportunities for foreign companies in this part of the chain. It was an interactive session during which the Dutch participants could ask the speakers about all interesting questions related to the Uzbek horticultural and livestock sectors.
