Training on Water and Food Nexus in Ukraine: Integrated Solutions for Communities, Agribusiness and Science.
Training Water and Food Nexus in Ukraine - the project is executed by the Офіс сталих рішень. Office of Sustainable Sulutions and Professional Association of Environmentalists of the World (PAEW) with the support of the Government of the Netherlands in the framework of the (PSD) private sector development program of RVO.
About the project
The course is designed for representatives of regional and local authorities, agribusiness and food businesses, as well as professionals and researchers working with water resources and food security. The focus is on real problems and working tools: reducing losses and pollution, increasing water efficiency, planning the modernization of water systems in communities, implementing energy-saving technologies in production, and preparing projects for financing.
The training sonsists of 10 modules, examples of Ukrainian and international solutions and practical approaches that can be applied immediately after the course. Whether the participants are responsible for community water systems, manage or develop an agro- or food enterprise, research water risks or support engineering and legal solutions, this course will help them move from problems and losses to clear actions and sound investment steps.
The training provides participants with the knowledge and skills to address water, agriculture and food security issues in conditions of war and post-war reconstruction in Ukraine, taking into account legal, environmental and social aspects; which are expected to be of practical application in their public or private work.
The training enables awareness in the water for food nexus at local and regional level; and increases the resilience of communities and agribusinesses to climate change and the consequences of war. It fosters synergies between private, public and knowledge stakeholders towards collective action to define solutions to specific local problems related to water management and food security.

The training is for
- For regional and local authorities and water sector managers, the outcome will be the ability to assess water risks in relation to food security and plan restoration priorities based on data, not intuition. Participants will be able to develop roadmaps for the modernization of community water systems, identify quick and medium-term measures, and prepare projects for government programs and international assistance. They will receive tools for dialogue with business and financial institutions in the language of economic feasibility and security.
- For agribusiness and the food industry, a key outcome will be an understanding of how to reduce water losses and pollution without losing productivity and how to implement saving technologies at the level of production processes. Participants will be able to conduct an initial assessment of their own water risks, describe them in internal development plans, and formulate technical terms of reference for modernization. They will also have practical guidelines on European requirements that affect access to markets and financing.
- For scientists, ecologists, lawyers, engineers and other professionals, the result will be a common applied framework for working at the interface of water, agriculture and food security, taking into account military and climate factors. Participants will be able to offer communities and businesses solutions that combine engineering, nature-based and management approaches, as well as assist in the preparation of projects and the evidence base. This will strengthen their role as technical and methodological partners for the development of territories and sectors.
