Vietnam's agriculture exports up 9% in the first 5 months
Agriculture, forestry and fisheries exports rose 9.2 per cent year-on-year to nearly US$30.7 billion in the first five months, helping the sector generate a trade surplus of $8.4 billion despite stronger import growth, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. China remained Việt Nam's largest export market, the United States ranked second, while the European Union ranked third and accounted for 11.8% of exports. The ministry is preparing measures to mitigate risks from geopolitical tensions, developments in the Middle East and US reciprocal tariff policies.
In addition, the ministry would continue promoting digital transformation and improving land and environmental databases, while reviewing environmental protection taxes and fees and strengthening measures to address natural disasters, disease outbreaks and IUU fishing.

E10 biofuel gasoline officially introduced nationwide from June
June 1, 2026, E10 gasoline was officially be introduced nationwide, making Vietnam one of more than 60 countries using biofuel-blended gasoline.
One of the most fundamental reasons for implementing E10 is to strengthen national energy security. Vietnam currently imports a significant share of its petroleum products and remains directly exposed to fluctuations in international markets. Replacing 10% of gasoline consumption with domestically produced ethanol would correspondingly reduce import expenditure, generating estimated foreign currency savings of nearly USD 1 billion annually.
For agriculture, each ethanol plant in operation provides a stable market for the produce of around 15,000 cassava-growing households in upland areas. Expanding ethanol production will create sustainable demand for cassava, corn and sugarcane, key crops for farmers in midland and mountainous regions.

Vietnam moves toward unified food safety management system
Vietnam’s current multi-ministry food safety framework faces growing scrutiny as officials seek a more streamlined and effective system to protect public health. The Ministry of Health currently manages six food sectors, while the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment oversees 19 sectors and the Ministry of Industry and Trade is responsible for 8.
One of the key principles highlighted is stronger decentralization to local governments, particularly at the commune level, combined with inspection, supervision and administrative enforcement mechanisms.

Vietnam speeds up 2020 forest map to support compliance with EUDR
Vietnam is speeding up the development of a 2020 forest boundary map to help exporters comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and reduce risks for key export sectors such as coffee, rubber and timber when accessing the EU market.
If Vietnam does not establish its own forest reference dataset, European importers will continue relying on global forest-cover databases to assess compliance for Vietnamese exports, which might result in inaccuracies when applied to local production conditions.
