Hungary will host its third Budapest Water Summit in October 2019, focusing on preventing water crises. In light of this Summit, a side-event on saline agriculture will be organized by the agricultural team at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Budapest.
This side event aims to shed light on our society's coexistence with changing environmental conditions in water and agricultural soils which endanger food security and economic livelihoods. Salinization of groundwater reservoirs and agricultural soils is one of the major impacts on the world's food production due to climate change and global population growth. Innovative measures are necessary to meet the challenge to adapt to sea water intrusion and shrinking inland groundwater tables and at the same time to feed growing population.
