- Global economic and sustainable development: the pioneering role of the Permanent Representation to OECD

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), headquartered in Paris, plays a crucial role in crafting policies for economic progress and sustainable development across the globe. With its guiding principle of ‘Better policies for better lives’, the OECD is a testament to collaborative international efforts aimed at enhancing quality of life worldwide. At the forefront of these efforts is the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the OECD, which champions Dutch interests, including areas critical to agriculture, nature, and food quality.

- PV OECD: West Africa’s struggle with currency devaluation and food insecurity

Global food systems face a triple challenge: ensuring food- and nutrition security, promoting environmental sustainability, and fostering economic viability. Nowhere is this challenge more critical than in West Africa, where agricultural productivity struggles to match population growth amidst the looming impacts of climate change. Adding to the complexity, the COVID-19 pandemic and the outbreak of conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East have further disrupted the food market in the region. Amidst these challenges, West Africa grapples with obstacles to sustaining food- and nutrition security amidst economic volatility and evolving trade policy landscapes.
