Highlights Agroberichten Buitenland is de wekelijkse nieuwsbrief van het LNV Attaché Netwerk. EUROPE - Frankrijk: pril optimisme over verkleinen kloof tussen stad en platteland?

Op 20 november werd op de Nederlandse ambassade in Parijs een debat georganiseerd met sprekers uit Frankrijk, Nederland en de OESO over het zogenaamde ruraal onbehagen. Wat opviel, was dat naast erkenning van het probleem ook plaats was voor wat optimisme, met name uit Franse hoek.

Het gebruik van diergeneesmiddelen in de veehouderij is de afgelopen jaren flink gedaald in Frankrijk. Dit wil de Franse overheid vasthouden, en een extra inspanning leveren op het gebied van gezelschapsdieren en op het gebied van antiparasitaire middelen.

AFRICA - Côte d'Ivoire: a thriving poultry industry

The issue of food security is a priority for Côte d’Ivoire. Very dependent on imports, Côte d'Ivoire is multiplying programs to develop the poultry and aquaculture sectors with ambitious objectives. The Second Generation Strategic Plan for the Recovery of Poultry Farming (PSRAII), which covers the period 2022-2031, aims to increase the production of poultry meat to 200,000 tonnes and of eggs to 3,371 million per year by 2030.

- Peru: ecosystem services and carbon credits support small-scale farmers

In the Andean countries, the voluntary market for carbon credits is becoming increasingly important. Different models and initiatives are available, but Acorn, proposed by the Dutch bank Rabobank, has been generating special interest, particularly in Peru, Colombia and Nicaragua. Acorn promises to democratize access to carbon markets for small-scale producers, by compensating them for planting and maintaining trees in their agroforestry systems.

- Verenigde Staten: COP28 send off event op United States Department of Agriculture

Op 29 november organiseerde het Amerikaanse ministerie van Landbouw (USDA) een zogenaamd “COP28 Send Off Event” voor hun ambtenaren die het ministerie zullen vertegenwoordigen bij de klimaatonderhandelingen in Dubai. Ook ambassade-vertegenwoordigers waren uitgenodigd voor deze sessie op het ministerie. De Nederlandse ambassadeur in Washington D.C., Birgitta Tazelaar, en LNV-raad Ton van Arnhem, namen in persoon deel aan het evenement. Daarnaast logden rond 100 gasten online in.

ASIA - China: EU Agrifood handelsmissie

De Europese Commissie gaat onder leiding van Commissaris Janusz Wojciechowski een agrifood handelsmissie naar China organiseren om de Europese kwaliteitsproducten te promoten. De missie zal van 21 tot 26 april 2024 plaatsvinden, aansluitend zal de EU een stand hebben op de Anuga Select China fair in Shenzhen. De missie zal op 21 april in Shanghai beginnen en daarna op 23 april naar Shenzhen doorreizen.

- China: Horticulture trade mission

From November 26 to 30, Mr. Marcel van Raaij, Acting Director European, International and Agro-economic Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality of The Netherlands, led a Horticulture Trade Mission to China.  A total of 19 Dutch companies and institutes participated in the delegation, which covered the whole industrial chain "from seed to table”. The delegation has effectively promoted the close cooperation of government, researchers and enterprises between China and the Netherlands, by carrying out fruitful business activities, such as agricultural forums, business matchmaking meetings, field visits and sectoral seminars.

- Indonesia: Halal certification towards 2024

Recently, the Indonesian government introduced new regulations that will make Halal certification mandatory for various consumer goods. Large-scale businesses in the food, health, and cosmetic industries must follow the general Halal certification process. Violating this obligation can result in a ban on selling goods within the Indonesian market. Halal certification ensures that products are free from any substances considered Haram, or unlawful, according to Islamic law.

- Japan: HoSt celebrates first biogas project

On 8 November 2023, Tana Power Plant of Sagamihara Biogas Power, Inc. (SBP), which generates renewable energy from discarded food, was officially opened, marking the first biogas project for HoSt in Japan. The opening of the new methane fermentation plant commissioned by SBP, a new company established by Japan Food Ecology Center (J.FEC) and other investors in September 2021, provided an opportunity to showcase state-of-the-art methanation technology from the Netherlands.

- Singapore: Collaboration with the Netherlands in urban food production

The annual Singapore International Agri-Food Week (SIAW) showcases innovation and collaboration in the agri-food industry, with a focus on sustainable food production in Asia. This year’s event, which took place from October 31 to November 2 2023 at Sands Expo & Convention Centre, brought together over 1000 global leaders from the public and private sectors, academia, and civil society to exchange ideas and insights on building a robust and vibrant agri-food ecosystem in Asia. One of the main focus areas of the event was urban food production.
