Reinoud Nuijten was nog maar kort landbouwraad op de Nederlandse ambassade in Kyiv, toen de coronapandemie uitbrak. En de problemen die daardoor ontstonden, waren vorig jaar amper beteugeld, toen Rusland Oekraïne binnenviel. Per 15 september heeft Nuijten zijn post verlaten. ‘De oorlog heeft alles veranderd. Thema’s zoals duurzaamheid en dierenwelzijn zijn en blijven belangrijk, maar toen de oorlog begon, kregen de Oekraïners iets anders aan hun hoofd.’

De Franse supermarktketen Carrefour heeft een coalitie gevormd met 7 grote fabrikanten, zoals Danone, Unilever en Bonduelle, met als doel om tegen 2026 €3 miljard omzet uit plantaardige producten te genereren. De oprichting van de coalitie geeft gehoor aan de groeiende interesse en vraag van consumenten en aan de noodzaak om de CO2-voetafdruk van voedsel te verminderen. De coalitie zal een aantal gezamenlijke initiatieven nemen.

De 37ste editie van Space Rennes vond plaats van 11 tot 13 september jongstleden in Rennes en telde 1.200 exposanten. De bezoekers komen naar Space uit interesse voor de sectoren veevoeder en voeding, uitrusting voor vee, gebouwen, gezondheid van dieren, melkapparatuur, genetica, agrobiologie, energie, leveranciers van aquacultuur. De beurs telde meer dan 90.700 professionele bezoekers waarvan 12.000 internationale (dat is 23% meer dan de voorgaande editie) uit 122 landen. Nederland was dit jaar met 45 exposanten de derde grootste exposant na Frankrijk en Duitsland. Er waren 4 Nederlandse prijswinnaars (Innov’Space).

Serbia: Difficulties in the agroeconomy

Plataforma Tierra analyses the results obtained by the Observatory of the Digitalisation of the Spanish Agri-Food Sector. India’s diverse physical features and climatic conditions have resulted in a variety of ecosystems such as forests, wetlands, grasslands, deserts, coastal and marine ecosystems. These ecosystems harbor and sustain high biodiversity and contribute to human wellbeing. At the moment, the Indian government is actively promoting natural farming. Numerous Dutch organizations, such as Commonland and NL Works, help to implement agriculture practices that are more eco-friendly and can support the livelihood of the population.

In a world grappling with the environmental and sustainability challenges posed by conventional livestock rearing, Taiwan emerges as a force in the development of plant-based meat alternatives. With a rich history of vegetarianism and a rapidly growing plant-based meat industry, Taiwan could be an important player as the world needs to transition towards more eco-conscious dietary choices .

De landen in Centraal-Azië zijn volop in ontwikkeling en zoeken mogelijkheden om hun landbouw te moderniseren. Tajikistan is het minst ontwikkelde land in de Centraal-Aziatische regio. Het groeit echter snel en er is grote belangstelling voor Nederlandse kennis en technologie om de landbouw naar een hoger peil te trekken. Van 9 tot en met 13 oktober 2023 bezoekt een grote officiële delegatie ons land met daarin vier vice-ministers en de hoofden van overheidsdiensten die gaan over agrarische handel, investeringen, onderzoek, onderwijs, verwerking en internationale samenwerking. In totaal bestaat de delegatie uit 18 personen.

The Partners for Water program from the Netherlands recently approved a project in Vietnam under the project name: “Improving water availability and safety through optimized irrigation and fertilizer application by hydroponic growers in Vietnam” the project will establish 2 pilot locations to demonstrate the feasibility and advantages of re-using drain water to local horticulture farmers in Lam Dong province, which is the horticultural production center of Vietnam. The project consortium partners are Ridder, Royal Brinkman, HollandDoor and Fresh Studio. Before the application of this pilot project a thorough feasibility study was undertaken by the consortium, providing sufficient understanding and proof for which crops, and under which circumstances an investment in re-using drain water has the fastest return on investment.

Grow more with less water and nutrients in Vietnam

The challenges faced by nature-inclusive agriculture in Iran are multifaceted. Yet, the number of private sector initiatives in Iran is mushrooming. For Dutch companies, there are several opportunities for collaboration, trade and knowledge exchange in the areas of nature-inclusive agricultural technologies, biofertilizers and biocontrol, IPM as well as water management in agriculture. The recognition of the quality of Dutch agricultural inputs and of Dutch innovation is high. In the area of marketing, Dutch and Iranian companies could learn from each other, as online marketing in Iran is very advanced.
