With support from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine, the “Insect House” project is being scaled up nationwide in 2026. The initiative combines biodiversity restoration with education by installing insect hotels in schools and communities. Through interactive learning, children gain insight into the role of pollinators and the link between climate, biodiversity and food production.
Climate change, the destruction of natural areas and intensive land use lead to a decrease in the number of pollinating insects, which causes an imbalance in entire ecosystems and reduces crop yields.
For several years now, Continental Farmers Group in cooperation with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine form the Smart Garden school community, which gains experience in agricultural activities, agronomy and business. An important aspect of sustainable agribusiness is understanding of climate-biodiversity-food interconnection.

The initiative “Insect House”, designed to preserve biodiversity and increase environmental awareness among children. The initiative involves the installation of insect houses — specially created ecosystems of safe stay for those species of beneficial pollinators that are losing their natural habitats due to urbanization.

With the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands the project of Continental is scaled up to the all-Ukrainian level. During 2026, it is planned to install more than fifty insect hotels in various settlements.

There is a QR code placed on each “Insect House”, participants of the project can access to an interactive educational platform with information about the life of insects and their role in nature. The insect houses are planned as interactive “outdoor classrooms” since the school children will be able to observe the life cycles of pollinators and understand the value of each insect for the overall ecosystem.
