The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has submitted a new addendum to the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerning Egyptian Standard ES 2613-2 (Shelf-life for food products). This update specifically modifies the requirements for sterilized flavored sweetened milk packaged in metal cans.

Key Changes for Exporters:

The amendment introduces specific shelf-life durations for products under Standard No. ES 1641/2023. Dutch exporters should take note of the following parameters:

  • Product: Sterilized flavored sweetened milk.
  • Packaging Type: Metal cans.
  • Revised Shelf Life: 12 months and 9 months (depending on specific product sub-categories or processing criteria as defined in the updated Table 2).

Compliance & Timeline:

  • Status: This is a modification of the content/scope of previously notified draft regulations.
  • Adoption/Entry into Force: Dates are currently "To be determined." However, the comment period for this addendum is open until April 14, 2026.
  • Action Required: Exporters currently shipping or planning to ship sweetened dairy products to Egypt in metal packaging should review their production and labeling standards and coordinate with local importers to ensure alignment with these updated timeframes.
