Context

Peru is a leading player in the global food industry. The country's geographical and climatic diversity produces a wide range of unique, high-quality agricultural products. From the coast to the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, Peru offers a wide variety of crops, each with its own characteristics and flavours. This dynamism has driven remarkable growth in Peruvian agricultural exports: in 2025, they reached a historic high of approximately USD 15 billion, a 17% increase over the previous year. Peru is now one of the world's top three exporters of products such as avocados, mangoes, blueberries, table-grapes, asparagus, paprika and cocoa, among others.

Alongside these classic products, Peru is consolidating its position as a world leader in the production and export of superfoods. Products such as quinoa, maca, camu camu, lucuma, sacha inchi and aguaymanto are enjoying growing international demand thanks to their nutritional properties and health benefits. Peru is the world's largest exporter of quinoa and maca, and global demand for organic and functional foods from the Andes and the Amazon continues to rise.

This rapid growth in Peruvian agricultural exports is generating increasing demand for inputs, technology and knowledge: from high-quality plant material and plant protection products to irrigation technology, precision agriculture, cold chains and food processing equipment. This represents an excellent opportunity for Dutch companies, which are recognised worldwide for their innovative solutions and expertise in the agri-food sector.

At the same time, Peru depends on imports for part of its food supply. Approximately 20% to 25% of food is imported. This dependence is particularly notable in the case of oils, of which more than 70% is imported. Other frequently imported products include powdered milk, margarine, cheese, sugar, chocolate, apples and pears.
