The Smart Farming Guide showcases the Dutch ecosystem for innovation in open field agriculture to public and private partners, in the Netherlands and beyond. The guide provides a concise overview of Dutch innovations, companies and collaborative networks in the sector, demonstrating how they contribute to sustainable and future-proof agriculture within the Netherlands and abroad. The Agrifood & Agtech thematic session during the Business Day of the Ambassadors’ Conference on 3 February 2026 offered an excellent opportunity to present the guide for the first time to a broad audience of public and private stakeholders.

Technological solutions and innovation in agriculture

During the Agrifood & Agtech session – chaired by Marten van den Berg, Director-General Agro at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) – ambassadors, consuls-general and business representatives discussed technological solutions for open field agriculture of today and tomorrow. Through concrete real-life examples, experts and entrepreneurs demonstrated how innovation enables more sustainable, efficient and profitable farming practices, including solutions that help reduce labour costs or save inputs. The session also highlighted how international cooperation contributes to future-proof food systems and strengthens the Netherlands’ international earning capacity. At the end of the session, Annemieke Broesterhuizen, Managing Director International Trade at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), formally presented the ‘Smart Farming Guide’ to Rogier van Tooren, Head of International Financing and Emerging Markets at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BZ).
