Agriculture remains one of the locomotives of the Ukrainian economy. However, the future of Ukrainian agriculture depends not only on production volumes, but also on how our agricultural sector is structured, managed and integrated into European value chains. The average size of a agrifarm in Ukraine increased from 479 hectares in 2010 to 649 hectares in 2024. And this indicator remains significantly higher than the European level, but corresponds to the historical path of Ukraine's development.

And this indicator remains significantly higher than the European level, but corresponds to the historical path of Ukraine's development.
This is stated in the study "Structure of Farms in Ukraine", the presentation of which took place as part of the meeting of the Committee of AIC Entrepreneurs at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

A study on the structure of farms in Ukraine was presented to the participants of the event by Dr. Taras Gagalyuk and Leibniz Institute for Agrarian Development in Transition Economies (IAMO).
The main conclusions about the state of the Ukrainian agricultural sector (2021-2024):
- The role of Ukrainian small farms (individuals) is decreasing, in particular due to the full-scale Russian invasion
- Legal entities (enterprises + farms) are the basis of production (71% of total production in 2024), domestic consumption and exports
- Medium-sized enterprises (average size - 1493 hectares per enterprise) play a decisive role
- Dynamic changes in the segment of medium-sized enterprises: both their number and their share in total production have increased in recent years
- Concentration is sub-sectoral, not sectoral
- Farms with an area of over 1000 hectares provide almost 75% of official jobs, while small and medium-sized enterprises are socially important, engaged in labor-intensive methods.
- Share of agriculture in GDP: 13.7% (-0.4 pp compared to 2021)
- 2.3-2.5 million jobs (15% of employment) created by the agricultural sector
- Agricultural exports: $24.5 billion (59% of total, compared to 40% in 2021)
- Impact of Russian aggression (estimated for 2021-2024): total losses over $80 billion; 5 million hectares (up to 20% of agricultural land) inaccessible due to mining and occupation
"The study will help politicians, businesses, and international partners make informed decisions in the context of post-war reconstruction and integration into the EU. C," said Oleg Yukhnovsky, Chairman of the Committee of Entrepreneurs of the Agricultural Industry at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
