Taiwan's agricultural sector: challenges and opportunities
Taiwan's agriculture is currently at a critical juncture, particularly its animal husbandry and horticulture sectors. The industry faces pressures to enhance efficiency and address environmental concerns such as waste management. The food processing sector is also seeking ways to improve food safety, traceability, and sustainability. In horticulture, there is a growing demand for advanced cultivation techniques to produce high-value crops with minimal resource use. These challenges also present a significant opportunity for innovation and international collaboration.
Looking ahead: export opportunities in Taiwan
The success of the Dutch Pavilion at both events highlights the significant export opportunities for Dutch agricultural and food companies in Taiwan. The local market’s focus on sustainability, smart farming, and food safety aligns perfectly with the Netherlands' expertise. In the coming years, Dutch companies are well-positioned to export a wide range of technologies and products, including:
- Circular and smart animal husbandry systems: Solutions for reducing emissions, improving animal welfare, and enhancing feed efficiency.
- Food processing technology: Innovative solutions for improving food safety, extending shelf life, and creating value-added products.
- Advanced greenhouse technology: Systems for climate-controlled indoor farming, vertical farming, and efficient water and nutrient management.
- Sustainable pest control: Biological and integrated pest management solutions that reduce reliance on chemical pesticides.
The strong relationships established during this year’s expos are expected to pave the way for numerous collaborations, driving both Taiwan's agricultural transformation and the Netherlands’ continued leadership in global agrifood innovation.
