"This approach will ensure a high survival rate of plants and will effectively replenish the forest resources of the region. The total cost of construction is estimated at 3.5 billion tenge. The implementation will be carried out through the leasing mechanism, as well as with the involvement of local budget funds. A 9 hectare plot has already been allocated, and documentation is being processed," the administration explained.
According to Kanat Nusipbayev, head of the Department of Natural Resources of the Almaty region, the project is of strategic importance.
"The creation of a forest nursery in Konayev is a step that will allow the region not only to provide itself with high quality planting material, but also to reach the interregional supply level. This is a contribution to preserving the ecological balance and improving the quality of life of citizens," he said.
In April 2025, it was reported that new forest nurseries would be created in six regions of Kazakhstan. The total budget of the project is 21.2 billion tenge: 3.5 billion tenge for each nursery. For example, trees and shrubs will be grown on a 150 hectare plot in Almaty. This decision will speed up landscaping, reduce city budget costs and strengthen the city's green fund.
