A new avenue for sustainable growth and circular bioeconomy development in Ukraine.

🌱 Bioenergy Association of Ukraine presents New Analytical Note: Advanced Biomethane Production from Intermediate and Cover Crops in Ukraine - a comprehensive analytical document developed by UABIO experts — a deep dive into the cultivation and use of intermediate and cover crops for biomethane production in Ukraine.

🔍 Analytical note explores:

  • Growing, harvesting, and logistics of intermediate/cover crops
  • Soil impact and sustainability aspects
  • International experience and European/US potential
  • Regional opportunities across Ukraine
  • Economic feasibility and production potential
  • A catalog of typical crops used globally and their additional uses.

📌 Why this matters: Ukraine traditionally grows intermediate and cover crops as green manure or animal feed. But their use for advanced biomethane production represents an innovative and sustainable solution — both for domestic energy security and the growing European biomethane market.

📊 The potential is massive:

🔹 Ukraine could produce over 20 bcm of biomethane annually

🔹 Up to 9.2 bcm/y (≈46%) could come from intermediate and cover crops

🔹 The sector could attract €40 billion in investments

We strongly encourage all stakeholders, from farmers to investors and policymakers, to explore this new avenue for sustainable growth and circular bioeconomy development.
