Providing 80% of the sown area with seeds of domestic selection and increasing the share of breeding horses of Kazakhstan selection to 10% - such key goals have been defined at the level of the republican agrarian policy until 2030. Scientific support for these areas is provided by the National Agricultural Scientific and Educational Center (NASEC) under the Ministry of Agriculture until 2030, the APK News agency reports.
Plant Breeding and Seed Production:
Seed shop
- Ensure 80% of crop areas use domestically bred seeds by 2030.
- Produce about 40,000 tons of original or elite seeds annually (38,000 tons produced in 2024, including 11,400 tons original).
- Develop 109 new crop varieties and hybrids.
- Scale up 154 high-yield crop varieties.
- Implement 26 research programs (2024–2026) with a budget of approximately €44 million, focusing on breeding, organic farming, and processing.
Infrastructure and International Cooperation:
- Opened a food safety lab in June 2025 for quality control and international standards compliance.
- Created a Center for Organic Product Certification with a Chinese university.
- Launched a Kazakhstan-China Innovation Center for grain quality, digitalization, and export standards.
Horse Breeding:
- Increase the share of Kazakh-bred horses to 10% of the total herd (420,000 out of 4.2 million) by 2030 (currently about 1%).
- Establish the Horse Breeding Institute (founded late 2024) focusing on genetics, veterinary care, and training.
- Develop new breeding programs, facilities, and international cooperation.
