Data on sown areas show record high for rapeseed
Rapeseed was sown in autumn on a record area of over 700,000 hectares, according to official data requested Agrointeligenta from the Ministry of Agriculture. The data on sown areas presents the state of affairs as of May 28, 2025. Also wheat production prospects are good.
Encouraging figures regarding sown areas
Romanian farmers have sown a record area with rapeseed. This crop currently covers over 700,000 hectares, according to data of the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture.
Here is the situation on May 28 for autumn crops sown last year:
– wheat + rye + triticale: 2,299,000 hectares
– barley: 447,000 hectares
– rapeseed: 702,000 hectares.
Agricultural production achieved last year for the main crops
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported in early May that, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the following production was achieved in 2024 for the main agricultural crops:
– Cereals: 17.87 million tons, of which:
– Wheat: 9.29 million tons
– Maize: 5.99 million tons
– Barley and two-row barley: 2.19 million tons
– Oats: 145,000 tons
– Legumes: 126,000 tons
– Oilseeds: 2.95 million tons, of which:
– Sunflower: 1.49 million tons
– Soybeans: 295,000 tons
– Rapeseed: 1.16 million tons
– Potatoes: 968,000 tons
– Vegetables: 2.06 million tons
Good prospects for wheat production this year
The prospects for this year’s wheat production are very optimistic, based on the abundant rains this spring.
Expert Cezar Gheorghe has recently estimated a wheat production of 13.3 million tons (compared to 9.3 million tons last year – therefore an expected 40% increase), most likely surpassing the exceptionally good production of 2021.
