Ukraine: state support program for building vegetables storages
Dutch solutions for potato and vegetable storages are well-known in Ukraine. With recently adopted program “Affordable Loans” the local farmers can finance the construction of new storage facilities.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a decision that will expand the possibilities of farmers to build vegetable storage facilities. The relevant resolution “On Amendments to Clause 9 of the Procedure for Providing Financial State Support to Business Entities” was adopted at a regular meeting of the Government. The document was prepared by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
“Important news for Ukrainian farmers engaged in vegetable growing. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a draft resolution initiated by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, which opens up new opportunities within the framework of the “Affordable Loans 5-7-9%” program. From now on, agricultural producers investing in the construction of vegetable storage facilities and potato storage facilities will be able to use state support in the form of compensation for the interest rate on loans – up to UAH 150 million, as well as enterprises in the livestock and processing industries,” emphasized the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Vitaliy Koval.
Why is this decision important?
Due to the war and the destruction of infrastructure in Ukraine, the storage deficit has increased to 60%. The need for the construction of storage facilities is 340 thousand tons. This will strengthen the country's food security, which will reduce price fluctuations for vegetables and fruits in the off-season.
