On 27 March, the Dutch embassy in the Republic of Moldova, the Counsellor for Agriculture for Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) jointly organised a seminar at the World Horti Center. The reason for the seminar was to present the findings of a r scoping study into the horticulture sector of Moldova.
This study has been conducted by Jos Leeters (HollandDoor) and Coen Hubers (Deran Research) and was made possible by financial support from RVO. Moldova is a country with considerable horticultural potential, which explains its former name as the “orchard of the Soviet Union”. The presentation focused on the needs and challenges in the horticulture sector in Moldova and highlighted opportunities for Dutch companies and others to contribute to the sector’s development, for example around seeds and planting materials, water management and integrated pest management, and post-harvest handling and processing.
More than 30 participants represented the business community, the public sector and knowledge institutions active in the horticultural sector. The seminar organisers were positively surprised by this large turnout, which is not a given for a relatively small and unknown country like Moldova.
The next step will be to start from the opportunities that emerged from the scoping study and to capitalise on the interest generated by this seminar. The scoping report is available via this link. For more information please contact PSD Coach Paul Lange (Paul.lange@rvo.nl).
