Introduction of Our.Coop training tool in Chad

In Chad, RVO commissioned a training on the basics of principles of rural farmers organisations and cooperatives. This project is part of the PSD Toolkit programme and aims to increase the impact of LAND-at-scale and AgriJobBooster projects by strengthening the involved associations and farmer groups. The implementation of this project started in May 2023 and the last training took place at the end of February 2024.

Introductie van Our.Coop-trainingstool in Tsjaad

A group of local trainers of three locally represented organisations were trained on the content and methodology of the Our.Coop and My.Coop training materials developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO). An experienced trainer coached the new trainers in rolling out the training to leaders of farmers groups as part of the AgriJob Booster and Land-at-Scale projects.

Farmer groups

RVO is commissioning the implementation of two projects in which farmers groups and cooperatives are involved. These farmer’s groups are assisted to strengthen their organisation and to discuss and define the objectives of (forming) the agricultural association or cooperative. Two key questions are addressed:

  • Why do we work together?
  • And how do we work together?

These key questions are discussed by addressing the basic principles of an agricultural cooperative, service provision to members, governance and financial management.

This is done through a training in which selected trainers of organisations based in Chad – Oxfam, Job Booster and Caritas Suisse – are trained on the content and methodology of the Our.Coop training modules, developed in collaboration with the Cooperatives Unit of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The selected trainers participated in a training of trainers (ToT) and directly after facilitated the training to board members and leaders of the farmer groups and cooperatives, supervised by the master trainer.

As a result, 47 associations and cooperatives participated in the first training, developed and implemented an action plan and participated in a follow-up day. Seven local trainers have the basic knowledge and skills to facilitate the training module on the basic principles of a cooperative.
