Import permits for seed potatoes in Egypt open for limited time

The Central Authority of Plant Quarantine in Egypt announced last week that the door for import permits for seed potatoes will be open only from 15th of April to 15th of May.

The required documents are:
•    Statement of the required quantity to import
•    Statement of the origin
•    Varieties requested
•    Growers’ numbers
•    Expected arrival date for the first and last shipment

Last month, The Central Administration of Plant Quarantine of Egypt informed the Dutch and French counterpart that field inspection will be postponed for this year. In 2022, Netherlands managed to export 48919 ton of seed potatoes to Egypt ranking the second largest exporter after Scotland.

It is important for Dutch companies to take note of this announcement, as not applying for an import permit during this period means that they will not be able to export to Egypt during this year.

The agriculture team of the Embassy stands ready to help any Dutch company interested to do business with Egypt, for more information, please contact: KAI-LNV@minbuza.nl

We encourage all Dutch companies to coordinate with their Egyptian importers to submit the required documents during this time frame.
