Romania - to launch calls for projects energy independence of agri-food companies

The Ministry of Agriculture is preparing a project submission session aimed at ensuring the energy independence of farms and food companies by installing photovoltaic panels, to be launched by autumn, Minister of Agriculture Adrian Chesnoiu said. The legal framework “providing for the granting of a substantial sum for agriculture and food industry, for ensuring energy independence, for the installation of photovoltaic panels either on the roof of buildings, on agricultural farms or near them, will be finalized as soon as possible. It is a program I am very interested in, and we have been in talks with colleagues from the Ministry of Energy for three months. We have all the documents ready so that we can launch the project submission session until the autumn", said the agriculture minister. He also said that the Ministry of Agriculture aims to support farmers in the face of the challenges posed by both the energy crisis and the crisis in Ukraine and the pandemic, and one of the measures is to support farmers who store primary production.

"The Rural Invest program, approved by emergency ordinance, also includes a measure to support those who store their primary production. Because we want Romanian farmers to take their primary production to storage centers, authorized warehouses, and sell it when prices are better for them. On the other hand, you will see a measure to stimulate the processing of raw materials, because this crisis easily gives rise to the opportunity. Romania should change its approach to 180 degrees, not to export such large quantities of grains as raw material and to export flour or products with added value and thus bringing added value to Romania", added the agriculture minister.
