Plantcraft Kft., a Hungary-based alternative protein innovation company, has recently developed a plant-based vegan pâté series, which was featured at the Plant Based World Expo in New York, winning the “Best Meat Alternative” award.

Plantcraft was founded in 2018, and has joined the ProVeg Incubator in 2019. Their goal is to create vegan alternative protein foods, based on a unique combination of plant-based ingredients. The company’s pâté currently comes in two varieties, mild and spicy, and its ingredients, among others, include green bananas, golden linseed and grapeseed oil. Plantcraft is also working on a range of other vegan meat products including sausages, hot dogs and cold cuts.

Csaba Hetényi and Kati Ohens, the two founders of the vegan innovation start-up, have chosen the US market as a target for their new vegan deli meat products. Plantcraft is planning to supply  1200 shops and 500 catering companies in the United States with their two pâté varieties this year but there are interested parties in India and Israel as well. In Hungary, their vegan pepperoni salami is now also available.

In the company’s recent press release announcing their plans to expand into the American market, Mr. Hetényi has stated that their inspiration to start researching vegan alt-protein products was that the world’s population will be approaching ten billion in the coming decades, and that “the meat consumption of the world cannot be secured with the food industry solutions used today.”
