Romania: Grain trader Ameropa revenue shrinks 19%

Ameropa Grains, one of the largest grain traders in Romania, posted RON3 billion revenue (EUR 610 million) in 2020, down 19% on the previous year, ZF has calculated from the data the company supplied.

The year 2020 was difficult for grain traders as the drought caused a 40% decline in grain production, rendering some farmers unable to fulfil their contracts. This caused a chain effect, because Ameropa Grains, a top five exporter of agricultural raw material in 2020, fell 20 places in the ranking of the top 500 exporters last year, which means it sold a lower volume of fertilizers and grain.

Net profit stood at RON4.2 million, 15 times lower than in 2019 and was the lowest in eight years, according to publicly available data.

The number of employees remained flat at more than 300.

Ameropa Grains Romania is part of Swiss Ameropa group, which also owns the fertiliser plants Combinatul de Ingrasaminte Azomures and Chimpex in Romania.
