This year’s theme, "Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow", highlights the need of sustainable production systems to ensure the health of people, the planet, and the economy in the long-term.

Sustainable agricultural production systems are the priority for the policy of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and backbone of the Dutch vision on cooperation in the agricultural sector with Ukraine

On June 7, the Ukrainian NGO’s: Analytical center of Agrarian Union of Ukraine, Agrarian Confederation of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce organized a webinar devoted to World Food Safety Day.  Together these organizations implement a MATRA project aimed at reforming the food safety system in Ukraine. In the time when Ukraine adapts its food safety legislation to be in line with the EU requirements, and reorganization of controlling authorities is taking place, it is very important to insure safety of produced food and consistent, open and transparent communication between the producers and authorities.

More about the project     Enhancing the position of regional NGOs as players for reforming the food safety system aimed to combat corruption.

Project goal to increase awareness of businesses in food safety requirements in Ukraine. The project suggests improving compliance of agro and food producers’ activity with the norms of domestic and international legal norms on food safety, hygiene, HACCP and others. Within the project, the NGO organizes educational webinars for trainers, local NGOs and businesses to explain the requirements of the Ukrainian legislation on food safety as it is changing to be in line with the EU acquis.

As of June 2021, the project has completed development of educational materials and delivered training to prepare businesses to food safety state control events, strategic sessions on raising awareness of EU food safety rules for business, certified 78 trainers from regions of Ukraine and stimulated their professional activity. As well they developed a regional network of trainers in food safety issues and IT instruments to support the trainers' community. This IT instrument is based on ideas developed by MDF Training & Consultancy company from the Netherlands concerning development of modern professional networks.  The instrument was presented to the participants of the webinar.
