Weekly summary of agriculture news from Vietnam (22-28 February 2021)

A weekly summary of agriculture development and production in Vietnam by VietLinh online.

Livestock

The total flock of chickens in Yen The District, Bac Giang Province is about 2.6 million. Of which, more than 1 thousand chickens will be provided to the market on the First Full-Moon Festival.

All chickens for the First Full-Moon Festival in January are roosters with beautiful appearance and average weight from 1.8 to 2 kilogram each. The chickens are farmed and cared for according to biosafety procedures.

However, this year, due to the influence of Covid-19 pandemic, localities stopped organizing festivals and public events. Thus, the consumption of chickens is reducing. Chicken price is expected to be only VND50,000-60,000/kilogram, depending on types. This is a decrease by about VND20,000/kilogram compared to the same period last year.

Plantation:

Currently, black pepper in Dak Nong Province is purchased by establishments at VND53,000 to 54,000/kilogram, a decline of VND2,000to4,000/kilogram.

Dak Nong Province has over 34,000 hectares of pepper. The failure of many pepper crops along with low prices are creating difficulties for pepper growers.

Especially in the post-harvest period, pepper gardens need to be watered and taken care of to prepare for the next crop, but many farmers face losses and neglect their gardens.

Fruits:

During the past few days, due to prolonged rain accompanied by frost and changing weather, many areas of Sanh orange in Bac Quang District, Ha Giang Province do not develop, causing losses of more than 2,700 tons of Sanh orange to gardeners.

Currently, Bac Quang District has more than 4,300 hectares of Sanh orange. Of which, nearly 3,800 hectares are being harvested. It is estimated that the output of Sanh orange in the 2020-2021 crop will reach 41,600 tons.

From the beginning of the crop until now, the whole district has produced about 13,000 tons of Sanh orange (equivalent to 31%). Orange prices range from VND5,000-10,000/kilogram.

Farmers, Agriculture, Countryside:

For many years, spraying insecticide by flying devices or drones has been a technology to automate agricultural production. The high tech is developed and preferred by farmers in many provinces in the Mekong Delta.

Recently, some households in Tran Hoi Commune, Tran Van Thoi District, Ca Mau Province have invested in 5 flying devices to spray pesticides on rice fields.

Spraying by flying technology can be operated at nighttime, with a capacity of more than 40 hectares/day and night.

The application of insecticide using flying devices or drones not only helps farmers save costs and pesticides, but also reduces the risk caused by frequent exposure to chemicals.

Pet, Flowers and Ornamental Plants:

After the Tan Suu Lunar New Year 2021, the prices of many fresh flowers drop sharply. People in Lao Cai province are actively "rescuing" their flowers. According to many flower growers, unlike any other years, there are so many unsold flowers from the Lunar New Year this year.

Many flower gardens in Lao Cai Province after the Lunar New Year are facing losses with no buyers, cheap flowers, and much caring effort. The Lunar New Year flower crop this year fails for most gardeners.

On social networks, many individuals have called out to "rescue flowers" with the aim of joining hands to consume flowers and help gardeners in Lao Cai Province.
