Myanmar exempts four priority crops from Value for Cultivation and Use (VCU) Testing

The National Seed Committee (NSC), Myanmar announced that four priority crops (Hot pepper/Chili, Tomato, Musk Melon, and Watermelon) are now exempted from the Value for Cultivation and Use (VCU) testing. The revision was made in accordance with the decision of the National Seed-related Committee meeting held on 6 November, 2020.

Therefore, only new or derived 13 priority crops have to undergo VCU testing to ensure the adaptability of varieties for the cultivation in Myanmar.  The remaining 13 priority crops are;  paddy rice, corn, green gram, black pea, chick pea, pigeon pea, groundnut, sunflower, sesame, cotton, rubber, cabbage and cauliflower. 

VCU testing 

Regarding VCU testing, rice crop requires to undergo at three locations for two seasons. The rest of the priority crops only need one season of trials at three locations. Both new and derived varieties can apply for the recognition certificates with the complete documents for the variety registration.
