Webinar: sustainable energy use in agriculture - Poland
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Poland organizes an online seminar on sustainable energy solutions dedicated to agricultural production.
The webinar is a part of Circular Week in Poland.
The effects of climate change are visible on a daily basis for farmers such as drought and excessive rain which has its effect on the yields. The agricultural sector has a challenge in adaptation but can also play a role in mitigation and be part of the solution to fight climate change. There are many possibilities for a farm to save energy, produce energy or have stable energy, also in Poland.
Threats
The emission of greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides and others heats up the air temperature and changes the climate dangerously. Extreme, often unpredictable weather phenomena caused by climate change are becoming more frequent. Storms, whirlwinds and floods caused by exhaust emissions cause great losses in the entire economy.
On the other hand, drought, which is present on a regular basis, is not only a direct threat to agricultural crops, but also to the energy stability of the farm, because it is often the water from rivers that serves as the coolant for power plants and, in the absence of it, electricity suppliers have a problem with providing energy.
Trends
The direction that the European Union has set in recent years is very clear and focused on actions leading to climate neutrality as laid out in the Green Deal and Farm to Fork strategy. Thus, it is obvious that initiatives to improve climate and develop renewable energy infrastructure will be (already is!) supported. It will likely become a new reality in the longer term phasing out fossil fuels at the same time. Due to this trend, electricity prices in Poland have already increased significantly, which directly translates into increased costs of agricultural production.
It is possible that in the long term, consumers will also pay more attention to the carbon footprint of the products they buy, which will translate into customer choices. These types of trends appear very quickly and it is impossible to introduce immediate changes in the way energy is supplied to the farm.
Since energy problems in agricultural production are universal in nature, it is worth looking at solutions already applied by the others. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands invites farmers and owners of production facilities to a webinar on the use of energy in agricultural production.

The webinar will be attended by:
- Klaas Hielke Dijkgraaf- LTO Noord will present practical application and rules in energy saving / renewable energy use that can be used by farmers on farms.
- Hubert Herbuś- Blue Fifty- will talk about obtaining energy on the farm using a combination of windmills and photovoltaic panels. By combining two different energy sources, you can get more power and a more stable power source.
- Julia Stekla and Barbara Matros from Institute of Animal Production will present the first biogas plant in Poland based entirely on agricultural waste, which is used not only to produce biogas as an energy source, but also after processing, it is an excellent fertilizer for plants produced on the farm.
